On Friday, May 8th, NAMES held its first Prom here at the school. It was a huge success, and by the end of the night, nobody tried to hide from the dance floor. Thanks to everyone for coming and a special thanks to Sherifa's family, Derek and Mariah's family, and Miranda's family for decorating, cleaning up, and donating so much food and supplies. Also, thank you to Quijote's Restaurant for all of the delicious food that you donated. You all made this a very special event for everyone.

Art Day with Joy

On March 11th, Joy hosted another Art Day where students wrote about and illustrated a picture depicting the NAMES, humor. We had a fun pizza lunch and some of the students had Joy paint their faces.

Soup Luncheon at NAMES

On Tuesday, February 3rd, NAMES had a Soup Luncheon in order to raise some fast-funds. Students, volunteers, and staff members created an array of soups, breads, and desserts for community members who were hungry for a warm and delicious lunch. Thanks to all attended our first Soup Luncheon! Be on the look-out for similar FUN-raisers in the future...

NAMES has a new look!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Cheri Sparks from A Painting Company in Denver. She volunteered several days and many long hours of her time to help us completely transform the outside of our building. She also provided us with the crucial painting equipment to allow us to get the job done. Please keep her company in mind if you are needing indoor or outdoor painting services. NAMES's Garden Restoration Project

With the help of Carlotta Espinoza, NAMES has transformed our garden area with a beautiful mural that incorporates the most important animals to those at NAMES. Thank you to those who donated to this cause and to those who helped us paint all of the beautiful animals.

NAMES Graduation Ceremony - June 25th, 2008

On Wednesday, June 25th, 2008, NAMES celebrated its graduation for the 2007 - 2008 school year. We honored 14 students who passed all five of the GED tests and three students who received certificates of accomplishment. Over 100 people attended the ceremony which included an Italian-style dinner. The welcoming and honoring songs were sung by Kadijatu Jalloh and Lonnie McCabe, and special recognition was payed to Monique Duran who received the 2008 Morning Star Medicine Wheel Way of Learning Award for finishing in the top ten percent of the country for her extremely high GED scores.

Congratulations to all 2007-2008 graduates and thank you to all of those who attended this year's graduation.

NAMES celebrates 12 years

On April 15, the Native American Multi-Cultural Education School turned 12. To celebrate, NAMES had a barbecue lunch on April 19 with past graduates and friends to NAMES.
Twelve years ago, on April 15, 1996, NAMES GED School opened its doors in a church five blocks from the current location at 3600 Morrison Road (one block south of Alameda). Since that eventful week, the school has helped more than 1,200 students improve their academic skills.
Founder Lynda Nuttal appealed for help with letters to the editor of both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News. Both dailies printed her letter, and she received $1,9000, three months’ rent for the new building.
When NAMES first opened, it had two small classrooms: one had no windows and the other had no heat. Yet, those students had the vision and the heat from their determined passion to pass the GED. Throughout the years, many students have received their GEDs. All who tried improved their education. There have been 249 graduates from NAMES and each has been special because nobody gave up on his or her dream.
Although students pay a small facility fee to participate ($35 initiation, plus $15 per month), NAMES is funded by grants and other donations.
NAMES planted its garden on May 17, and its next graduation is scheduled for June 25.

Since that eventful week, we have had 249 graduates and we've helped over 1,200 students improve their academic skills.

When we first opened twelve years ago, we had two small classrooms: one had no windows and the other had no heat. However, those students had the vision and the heat from their determined passion to pass the GED. Over the last 12 years, our students have carried forward this passion for attaining their education.
